Configuring Knowledge Sources for Brainfish Assist (Chrome Extension)

Overview

This article explains how Brainfish Assist (the Chrome extension) uses knowledge sources, how to control which sources it accesses, and how the extension connects to your Brainfish agents.

How Brainfish Assist Uses Knowledge

Brainfish Assist (Chrome extension) does not have its own, separate knowledge configuration. Instead, it uses the knowledge configuration of the agent(s) in your Brainfish account.

At a high level:

• You configure knowledge sources in the Brainfish web app.
• You assign those sources to an agent via the agent’s Knowledge Settings.
• The Chrome extension uses whatever knowledge sources are enabled for the agent it is connected to.

Configuring Knowledge Sources in Brainfish

1. Set up knowledge sources

   1. In the Brainfish dashboard, go to the Knowledge section.
   2. Add and configure your knowledge sources (for example, website syncs, OpenAPI specifications, or other supported data sources).
   3. Ensure each desired source is enabled.

2. Assign knowledge sources to an agent

   1. From the left-hand menu, navigate to Agents.
   2. Select the agent you want Brainfish Assist to use.
   3. In the agent configuration panel, open Knowledge Settings.
   4. Choose one of the following options:
      • All sources: The agent uses all enabled knowledge sources in your Brainfish account.
      • Specific sources: Manually select individual sources from the dropdown so the agent only uses those sources.
   5. Save your changes.

The selected configuration determines which information the agent — and therefore the Chrome extension — can use when generating responses.

Controlling Which Sources the Chrome Extension Uses

If Brainfish Assist is showing irrelevant information, it is because the connected agent is:

• Using All sources, or
• Configured with Specific sources that include content you consider irrelevant.

To refine what the Chrome extension can access:

1. Go to Agents in the Brainfish dashboard.
2. Select the agent the Chrome extension is using.
3. Open Knowledge Settings.
4. If All sources is selected, switch to Specific sources.
5. From the dropdown, select only the relevant sources and deselect any that are not needed.
6. Save your changes.

After this update, Brainfish Assist will only draw from the sources you kept selected for that agent.

Connecting the Chrome Extension to Your Account and Agents

1. Install the Chrome extension

   1. Open the Chrome Web Store.
   2. Search for Brainfish Assist and install the extension.
   3. (Optional) Use the direct link provided in the "Brainfish Assist (Chrome Extension Overview)" help article.

2. Sign in to Brainfish

   1. Ensure you have an active Brainfish customer account.
   2. Sign in to Brainfish in your browser.

3. Automatic agent connection

   • Once installed and you are logged into your Brainfish account, the Chrome extension automatically connects to your configured agent(s).
   • There is no separate manual step inside the extension to “link” a specific agent.
   • The extension uses the same knowledge configuration you set at the agent level in the Brainfish dashboard.

Verification

To confirm that your configuration is working as expected:

1. Open a web page where you plan to use Brainfish Assist.
2. Open the Brainfish Assist Chrome extension sidebar.
3. Ask a question related to the knowledge sources you enabled.
4. Verify that responses reflect only the relevant sources you selected in the agent’s Knowledge Settings.

If you still see irrelevant content, revisit the agent’s Knowledge Settings and ensure unwanted sources are fully deselected.
