# Creating and Configuring a Help Center Agent (Including Suggested Follow-up Actions)

## Introduction

This guide shows you how to create a new Help Center agent (help center configuration) and then configure it—especially the **Suggested Follow-up Actions** that appear after the agent answers, and the **Temperature** setting that controls how creative or focused those answers are.

## When to Use This

Follow these steps when you need to deploy a new help center for a different site, product, or audience segment, or when you want to add/adjust follow-up actions or response creativity for an existing Help Center agent.

## Creating a New Help Center Agent

1. Navigate to the **Agents** page from the sidebar menu.
2. Click **Create new agent** in the top right corner.
3. Enter a name for your new agent (e.g., "Demo Help Center") in the **Agent name** field.
4. Under **Select a connection**, choose **Help Center**.
5. Click **Create** to finalize the setup.

After creation, you’ll be redirected to the agent configuration page where you can customize settings.

## Accessing the Help Center Agent Settings

1. From the main dashboard, click **Agents** in the left-hand navigation.
2. On the **Agents** page, locate and click your **Help Center** agent to open its configuration page.
3. You’ll see several sections, including **General Section Settings**, **Styles & Customization**, **Response Settings**, **Agent Settings**, **Suggested Follow-up Actions**, **Knowledge Settings**, and **Advanced Settings**.

## Adding Suggested Follow-up Actions

Suggested follow-up actions appear after the agent provides an answer, giving users clear options for what to do next.

Follow these steps to add a new suggested follow-up action:

1. On the Help Center agent’s configuration page, open the **Agent Settings** or **Response Settings** section (depending on your UI version).
2. Scroll down to the **Suggested Follow-up Actions** area.
3. Click the **+ Add action** (or **+ Add action button**) control.
4. From the dropdown menu, select the type of action you want to create, for example **URL**, **Email**, or **Phone**.
5. Fill in the required fields for the selected type. For a **URL** action, provide:
   * **Button text** – the label the user will see (e.g. "Visit Help Center").
   * **URL** – the destination link the button should open.
6. Repeat steps 3–5 if you want to add additional follow-up actions.
7. When you are finished, click **Save changes** to apply your updates to the agent.

## Tips for Choosing Follow-up Actions

* **Link to key resources**: Add a URL button to your Help Center home page, status page, or key workflows.
* **Offer direct contact**: Include **Email** or **Phone** actions for situations where users may need human support.
* **Keep labels clear**: Use concise, action-oriented button text so users understand exactly what will happen when they click.

## Adjusting Response Creativity (Temperature)

The **Temperature** setting on a Help Center agent controls how deterministic or exploratory the AI's responses are. Lower values make the agent stick more closely to its source content; higher values let it phrase answers more freely.

### Where to find it

1. Open your Help Center agent's configuration page.
2. Expand the **Agent Settings** accordion.
3. Scroll to the **Temperature** field.

### Choosing a value

Temperature is a number between **0.0** and **1.0**, in steps of 0.1. The dropdown labels common values to help you pick:

| Value | Label | When to use it |
|----|----|----|
| **0.0** | Most focused | You want very repeatable, deterministic answers — e.g. compliance, billing, or policy content where the wording must stay close to source. |
| **0.5** | Focused | Slightly more natural phrasing while still hugging the source material. |
| **0.7** | Balanced (Default) | Recommended for most Help Center agents. Good mix of accuracy and natural-sounding answers. |
| **1.0** | Most creative | Most varied, exploratory phrasing. Useful for marketing-style or onboarding agents where tone matters more than exact wording. |

If you don't set a Temperature on the agent, Brainfish falls back to the platform default of **0.7**.

### How agent temperature interacts with widget settings

* The Temperature you set in **Agent Settings** is stored on the agent itself and **takes precedence** over any widget-level temperature configured in **Advanced Settings (Super Admin)**.
* If the Agent Settings Temperature is left at its default and unchanged, Brainfish falls back to the widget-level temperature, and finally to the platform default.

### Saving your change

After selecting a Temperature value, click **Save changes** at the top of the agent configuration page. The new value applies to every answer the Help Center agent generates from that point on.

### Tips

* **Start at 0.7** and adjust only if you observe specific issues — too rigid (raise it) or too loose / off-topic (lower it).
* **Pair with Custom Instructions**: Temperature affects *how* the agent phrases an answer, not *what* it can say. If answers drift off-topic, tighten Custom Instructions before raising or lowering Temperature.
* **Test with Simulation**: Use the agent simulator to compare answers at different Temperature values before saving for production.

## Common Questions

**Can I rename the agent later?** Yes—agent names can typically be updated in the agent settings after creation.

**What happens after I click Create?** You’ll be redirected to the configuration page for your new Help Center agent where you can customize it further.

**Does Temperature change which articles the agent retrieves?** No. Temperature only affects the *phrasing* of generated answers. Which knowledge sources are searched is controlled separately under **Knowledge Settings**.

## Summary

1. Create a new **Help Center** agent from **Agents** → **Create new agent**.
2. Open the agent to access its settings.
3. In **Suggested Follow-up Actions**, click **+ Add action**, choose an action type (such as **URL**), and fill in the required details.
4. In **Agent Settings**, choose a **Temperature** value to tune how focused or creative the answers are (default is **0.7 – Balanced**).
5. Click **Save changes**.

Using suggested follow-up actions enhances the user experience by giving clear, guided next steps after each answer, such as visiting a help center page, booking a demo, or contacting support. Tuning Temperature lets you match the agent's tone to your audience without changing your underlying knowledge.
