# Getting Started: Navigating the Brainfish Platform

Welcome to Brainfish! This guide provides an overview of the main sections of the Brainfish platform so you can quickly understand where to go to manage content, configure agents, review performance, and set up key features.

## Main navigation overview

When you log into Brainfish, you land on the **Dashboard** — your main home page. From the left-hand sidebar, you can navigate to the core sections:

1. **Knowledge** — your central repository for articles and ambient knowledge used by AI agents. **External Data** lives here too, accessible by expanding Knowledge in the sidebar.
2. **Distribution** — where you configure and deploy agents, actions, and guidance/nudges to channels like the web, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and the hosted help center.
3. **Analytics** — how users are interacting with your content and where to improve.

Understanding these areas will help you efficiently manage your AI agents and your overall self-service experience.

## Visual status indicators

Articles and folders in the sidebar display icons representing their state:

* **Published** — visible to end-users via agents and help center.
* **Internal** — visible to your team but not to customers.
* **Draft** — not yet reviewed or published.

These indicators let you see at a glance which content is live without opening each article.

## Dashboard

The **Dashboard** is your main landing page — a high-level summary of how your Brainfish deployment is performing. Expect to see:

* **Questions asked** — total queries your users have asked your AI agent.
* **Answer rate** — the percentage of questions that received an AI answer.
* **Actions** — activity from automated actions triggered by your agents.
* **CMS health** — a signal on the quality and coverage of your knowledge base.

Use the Dashboard to get a quick pulse on adoption and performance before diving deeper into analytics or configuration.

## Analytics

Use **Analytics** to understand how users are interacting with your AI agent and content. From here you can:

* Review user queries and the answers provided by your AI agents.
* See which questions are not being answered and use those gaps to improve your content.
* Understand behaviour over time — trends, volumes, and answer performance.

## Knowledge & External Data

The **Knowledge** section is your central repository for all content used to train your AI agents. In this area you can:

* Create, import, and organize collections of articles using the Managed CMS.
* Review and manage ambient knowledge created by your agents (if enabled).

**External Data** is nested within Knowledge and is the home for all external connections:

* Manage data sources in a grouped view (Notion, API docs, Brainfish app, website crawls, and more).
* Continuous sync keeps content fresh without rebuilding pipelines.

Keeping Knowledge organized and up to date ensures your agents give accurate, high-quality answers.

## Distribution

**Distribution** is where your knowledge is delivered to users. It houses:

* **Agents** — create and configure AI agents (for example, Search or Sidebar), choose branding and knowledge settings, and copy embed snippets for your site or product.
* **Actions** — automated tasks that help users "close the loop" after an answer (e.g., open live chat, submit a ticket, direct users to a settings page).
* **Guidance / Nudges** — proactive, in-product messages to announce features, provide contextual tips, or communicate outages.
* **Channels** — where agents run: the web widget, the hosted help center, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Salesforce.

Agents are the user-facing interface for your AI-powered self-service. Make sure they're properly configured and connected to the right knowledge sources.

## Where this fits in Getting Started

* Organize and manage your content via **Knowledge**.
* Connect external data sources via **External Data** (inside Knowledge).
* Configure and deliver experiences (agents, actions, nudges, channels) via **Distribution**.
* Use the **Dashboard** and **Analytics** to monitor performance.

By familiarising yourself with the Dashboard, Knowledge, Distribution, and Analytics, you'll be able to navigate Brainfish confidently and manage your AI-powered customer support system end-to-end.
