# How to get an Intercom access token

You need an Intercom access token to connect Intercom as an external data source in Brainfish. Use this guide alongside [Intercom Knowledge Sync](/articles/intercom-knowledge-sync-W6lFWTAH9F).

## Where to get the access token

Intercom provides an access token as soon as you [create an app](https://app.intercom.com/a/developer-signup) inside your Intercom workspace.

1. Open the [Intercom Developer Hub](https://app.intercom.io/a/apps/_/developer-hub/app-packages) and sign in.
2. Click **New app** (or open an existing app you've created for Brainfish).
3. In the left sidebar of the app, open **Configure → Authentication**.
4. Copy the value shown under **Access Token**.

You can also find existing tokens under **Test & Publish → Your Workspaces** in the same app.

## Required scopes

When prompted for scopes, grant your Brainfish app:

- `read` access to **Help Center**
- `read` access to **Articles**

## Next step

Paste the access token into the **Intercom API Key** field when configuring the connector — see [Intercom Knowledge Sync](/articles/intercom-knowledge-sync-W6lFWTAH9F) for the full setup walkthrough.
