# Knowledge Grouping: Segmenting Answers

Knowledge Grouping enables teams to categorize collections and knowledge sources into specific groups, improving the search experience by allowing users to filter results based on these predefined groups. Below is a detailed guide to setting up and using Knowledge Grouping in your help center.

---

### **What is Knowledge Grouping?**

Knowledge Grouping allows teams to combine multiple knowledge sources and collections into named groups. These groups streamline search results, ensuring users find relevant information more quickly and efficiently.

In addition to configuring groups at the help center level, you can also create and manage groups directly within an individual agent's **Knowledge Settings**. This allows you to tailor which grouped sources a specific agent can access.

---

### **How to Set Up Knowledge Grouping**

#### **Creating Knowledge Source Groups for a Widget or Help Center Agent**

You can also define groups of related knowledge sources that apply to a single agent. This helps end‑users narrow their search by choosing a specific group in that agent’s experience.

1. Navigate to the **Agents** page and select your chosen agent.
2. Open the agent configuration panel and go to **Knowledge Settings**.
3. Within this section, locate the **Knowledge source groups** subsection.
4. Click the **+ Add knowledge source group** button.
5. Define the group’s attributes and assign the relevant knowledge sources to it.
   * For a **Help Center** Agent, the agent will clarify what user is asking a question to filter the content
   * For a **Widget** Agent, you will need to be sending custom attributes to the widget in order to then filter by them (like below)
6. Save

**Once saved, these groups will be available as selectable categories or filters in that agent’s answer experience.**

---

### **Using Knowledge Grouping in the Help Center**

#### 1. **Answer Functionality**

* When users perform a search in the help center or an agent, the system will now fetch results based on the defined groups instead of individual collections.

#### 2. **Group-Based Results**

* For example, a search like "How do I update my pricing?" will return results specifically from the group (e.g., "Group Name") configured for this search query.

---

### **Benefits of Knowledge Grouping**

* **Enhanced Search Accuracy**: Users receive more relevant search results tailored to specific groups.
* **Improved Organization**: Simplifies the management of knowledge sources and collections.
* **Detailed Insights**: Provides group-based analytics for better tracking and optimization.
