Using Import, Export, and API Tokens

Introduction

This guide covers three data-management features available in Settings: importing content from other services, exporting your knowledge base for backup, and creating API tokens for programmatic access.

Import

Import lets you bring content from external services or a previous export into Brainfish.

  1. Click your avatar in the top header and select Settings.
  2. In the Company section of the settings menu, click Import.
  3. Choose your import source. The platform supports importing from services like Zendesk and Notion, as well as from a previously exported Brainfish backup file.

Export

Export creates a downloadable backup of all your documents.

  1. Click your avatar in the top header and select Settings.
  2. In the Company section of the settings menu, click Export.
  3. Click Start Export to generate a new backup. Recent exports are listed on the same page once they are ready to download.

API Tokens

API tokens let you authenticate programmatic requests to the Brainfish API — useful for custom integrations and automation.

  1. Click your avatar in the top header and select Settings.
  2. In the Advanced section of the settings menu, click API Tokens.
  3. Click New token, give it a name, and copy the token value. Store it securely — it is not shown again.

Summary

Import and Export are in the Company section of Settings. API Tokens are in the Advanced section. Together they let you migrate data into the platform, create secure backups of your knowledge, and extend Brainfish through the API.
