How to choose article sort order on your Help Center
Summary
Choose how articles are listed inside each category on your public Help Center — for example, alphabetically by title, by newest first, or in the same order you use in Knowledge.
This setting applies to:
- Category pages (when a visitor opens a collection and sees its article list)
- The site-wide Articles view
- The sidebar article list under each collection
It does not change the order of collections or sections on your home page — only the articles within each collection.
Where to find it
<br />- Go to Agents in the sidebar.
- Open your Help Center channel.
- Expand Knowledge Settings.
- Scroll to Article sorting (below Sections).
- Pick a sort method from the dropdown.
- Click Save changes.
Changes apply to the live Help Center after you save.
Sort options
Which option should I pick?
- Title — Best when visitors browse by name and you want predictable alphabetical lists.
- Created date — Best when you publish new guides often and want the latest content surfaced first.
- Updated date — Best when you refresh existing articles regularly and want recently updated guides to stand out.
- Matching knowledge base — Best when you have carefully ordered articles in Knowledge (e.g. a getting-started sequence) and want the Help Center to follow that exact order.
Using "Matching knowledge base"
When you select Matching knowledge base, Brainfish mirrors the article order from your Knowledge sidebar for that collection.
To change the order:
- Go to Knowledge.
- Open the collection.
- Drag articles into the order you want.
- Return to Agents → Help Center → Knowledge Settings and confirm Matching knowledge base is selected.
- Save your Help Center settings if you made other changes.
Only published articles that are enabled for the Help Center appear on the public site. Draft, archived, or internal-only articles are not shown, regardless of sort setting.
What visitors see
On a category page, visitors see the top-level articles in your chosen order.
On the Articles page (when enabled on your site), each collection is shown as a group with its articles listed in the same order.
In the sidebar, nested articles under a collection follow the same sort order.
Common questions
Does this affect search results?
No. Search ranking is separate. Article sorting only controls the order of lists when visitors browse categories or the articles page.
Does each Help Center have its own sort setting?
Yes. If you run multiple Help Centers, configure article sorting on each Help Center channel independently.
I changed the setting but the order looks wrong
Check that:
- You clicked Save changes on the Help Center channel.
- The articles you expect to see are published and the collection is set to Public.
- For Matching knowledge base, the order in Knowledge is what you expect — drag articles there to adjust.
- You are looking at the correct Help Center (if you have more than one).
Hard-refresh the public site or open it in a private window to rule out browser caching.
Does this change how articles are ordered in the Knowledge dashboard?
No. The Knowledge sidebar always shows your editorial order. Article sorting only affects the public Help Center.
