Notion Knowledge Sync
Integrate your team's knowledge directly from Notion into Brainfish. By syncing your Notion databases, you can keep your AI agent's knowledge up-to-date automatically, ensuring it always provides the most accurate and relevant answers.
This guide will walk you through the process of creating a Notion integration, then connecting and syncing your Notion databases as a knowledge source.

When to Use This
Follow these steps when you are configuring the Notion data source in Brainfish and need to generate a new API token from your Notion workspace, then connect one or more Notion databases for syncing.
Step 1: Create a Notion Integration and API Key
To sync a Notion database, you first need an internal integration in Notion and its API key.
- Navigate to the Notion Integrations page (you can click the link provided in the Brainfish configuration modal).
- Click on the + New integration button.
- Fill in the Integration Name (e.g., "Brainfish Sync").
- Select the Associated Workspace that you want to connect.
- Ensure the Type is set to Internal.
- Review your settings and click Save.
- Once saved, copy the Internal Integration Secret (API key) provided by Notion to use in the Brainfish configuration.
Note: You must be an admin of the Notion workspace to create new integrations. If you don't see the + New integration button, check your workspace permissions.
Step 2: Navigate to External Data and Add a New Source
- From your Brainfish Dashboard, click on External Data in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Click the + Source button.
- From the list of external data sources, select Notion.
Step 3: Configure Your Notion Connection
You will now see the "Configure Notion" form. You'll need to provide a name for this source and your Notion API key.
- Source Name: Enter a descriptive name for your connection, such as "Engineering Docs" or "Product FAQs".
- Notion API Key: Paste the API key you created in Step 1.
- Click the Notion integrations page link in the helper text, or use the link provided in the Brainfish configuration modal if you still need to open Notion.
- In Notion, you can create a new integration or use an existing one.
- Select your integration and navigate to the Configuration tab.
- Click Show next to the Internal Integration Secret to reveal the key if you need to copy it again.
- Click Copy to copy the key to your clipboard.
- Paste the API Key: Return to Brainfish and paste the copied key into the Notion API key field.
- Select Notion Databases: Once a valid API key is entered, the Notion Databases dropdown will populate with all the databases your Notion integration has access to. Select the specific databases you want to sync.
- Enable Daily Sync (Optional): Toggle Enable daily sync if you want Brainfish to automatically update the content from your Notion databases every day.
- Click the + Add Source button to finalize the connection.
Step 4: Sync and Verify Your Content
After adding the source, Brainfish will begin importing content from your selected Notion databases.
- On the External Data page, you will see your new Notion source with a "Syncing" status. This process may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of content.
- Once the sync is complete, the status will update to show the number of articles imported.
- Click on the newly created Notion catalog to view the list of imported pages. You can click the eye icon (👁️) next to any article to preview its content and ensure it was imported correctly.
Step 5: Enable the Source for Your Agent
To start using this knowledge, you must enable the source and ensure your agent has access to it.
- On the External Data page, find your new Notion source card. Click the three-dots menu (...) and ensure the source is Enabled.
- Navigate to the Agents page from the left-hand menu.
- Select the agent you want to train with this new knowledge.
- In the agent configuration panel, go to Knowledge Settings.
- Ensure that All sources is selected, or specifically add your new Notion source from the dropdown menu.
Step 6: Test Your Integration
Finally, test that your agent can find and use information from the new source.
- Open the Agent Playground or your website where the agent is deployed.
- Ask a question related to the content in your synced Notion databases.
- The agent should provide a detailed answer based on the information from your Notion documents. You can also expand the Sources to see the specific Notion page that was used to generate the answer.
You have now successfully created a Notion integration, generated an API key, and synced your Notion databases with Brainfish. Your agent will now be able to answer questions using the knowledge stored in Notion.

Where do I find the Notion API key? The API key (also called the Internal Integration Secret) is generated inside your Notion workspace under Settings & members → Integrations → My integrations.
